Veuve Clicquot Polo Gold Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club

British Open Polo Championship Final – 21st July 2013

 

Lyndon Lea’s Zacara side won the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park for the second time in three years after recording a stunning victory over Dubai at Cowdray Park Polo Club, 11-8.

 

The victory gives Zacara a sweep of the English high-goal season and marks the third time Facundo Pieres has come out on top in a head-on-head meeting with Adolfo Cambiaso dating back to Zacara’s win in the finals of the United States Open Championship.  The win also cements Facundo’s position atop the World Polo Tour rankings, a position he recently took from Cambiaso following Zacara’s Queens Cup title win.Teams and Players.

 

Zacara:  Facundo Pieres 10 , Lyndon Lea 1 Rodrigo Ribeiro de Andrade 8 and Matt Perry 3. Total: 22.

 

Dubai:  Rashid Albwardy 2 Alec White 3,  Nicolas Pieres 7 and Adolfo Cambiaso (h) 10 .  Total: 22.

 

The Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006, is the highlight of the season at Cowdray Park, the home of British polo.Cowdray Park is set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Viscount Cowdray’s 16,500-acre estate. The Polo club has two sets of grounds; the Lawns and River Grounds are very near to Midhurst, and the Ambersham pitches are located halfway between Midhurst and Petworth.

 

Zacara v Dubai in the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup polo match was played at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Lawns 2 on Sunday 21 July 2013.
